What are the Warnings/Cautions for Diovan? Be careful to use Diovan under below conditions in case;

  

Hypokalemia has been observed in people taking thiazide diuretics. Serum potassium should be be monitored at frequent intervals. Hyponatremia and hypochloremic alkalosis associated with thiazide diuretic therapy have been determined.

 It should be taken very carefully with the materials changing serum electrolyte, potassium supplements, potassium-retaining diuretics, artificial salts containing potassium or heparin.

The thiazide group diuretics increase the amount of magnesium in the urine and hypomagnesemia. Symptomatic hypotension can be. Before starting treatment with Diovan, sodium and volume gradient should be corrected. 

In case the hypotension esists, the patient should be sedated and intravenous saline infusion should be administered. Once the blood pressure is stabilized, treatment can be continued.

Potassium supplements, potassium-retaining diuretics, artificial salts containing potassium can increase the potassium levels if used with Diovan. It should be cautiously combined with other medications and serum potassium levels should be monitored with frequent intervals.

 

In combination with ACE inhibitors and thiazide group diuretics, serum lithium concentrations and toxicity have been observed. In the case of monotherapy with valsartan, interactions has not been determined with the medicines such as cimetidine, warfarin, furosemide, digoxin, atenolol indometacin, hydrochlorothiazide, amlodipine, glibenclamide.
